Wednesday 10th October, 2018: Prime Minister, Dr. Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and other Caribbean delegates gathered in Bali, Indonesia this week for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, have received updates on matters relevant to the respective institutions.

The updates came at the Caribbean Caucus Breakfast Meeting on Wednesday, when regional delegates met with the Executive Directors for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean, with the World Bank and IMF respectively, Ms. Christine Hogan and Ms. Nancy Horsman.

Hurricane response and the issue of disaster resilience was a key talking point at the breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Mitchell commended for his leadership in this area.

It was noted that the unprecedented impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria have served to shape discussions at the World Bank over the past year, with focus on building resilience and building back better.

Kicking off the round table discussion, Dr. Mitchell expressed appreciation for the support of the World Bank in the wake of the 2017 Hurricane Season.

“We appreciated the bank’s support to the region in terms of direct support to the countries affected, and also the support for the Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator which was formally launched in Jamaica in August.”

The Small States Road Map developed in 2017 to serve as a blueprint for engagement with small states was also a key talking point ahead of the Small States Forum 2018 on Thursday, at the end of which Prime Minister Mitchell will hand over chairmanship to Fiji.
