ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, MAY 4, 2018: The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Religious Affairs is pleased to recognize the New Testament Church of God’s 60th anniversary celebrations, to be held during May 2018.

The Church has several activities planned throughout the month of May, in celebration of this milestone. The church, in Grenada, began in 1958, with the first congregation assembling in Springs, St. George, and the first physical location being the church in Beaton, St. David. It has now expanded to nine locations island-wide.

George Fletcher, Bishop at New Testament Church of God, said, “We want people to know that we are around and that we are ready to serve the public.”

The theme for the celebration is therefore “Go”, which is a reflection on God’s word in Matthew Chapter 28 - a call to members to go forth and spread the gospel. During week two of the celebrations,  there will be evangelism activities, which will include church outreach programs to the shut-in, elderly, disadvantaged, youth and general public.

Tafawa Pierre, Chairman of the Celebrations Planning Committee and member of the New Testament Church of God, outlined some of the activities during the third week in May that are specifically geared at youth.

“We’ll be having some district services, to cover the entire national church. So, we have a service at Birchgrove New Testament Church of God and one at Lucas Street, in St. George’s, on the 14th, beginning at 7 p.m. So, all young people are invited and then on the 18th, which is the Friday, we have the HEM experience, a grand worship service, at the Lucas Street Church in St. George’s, beginning from 7 p.m. We have the Gasparilo Ministries from Trinidad – some young people coming in and it’s going to be an excellent worship experience, so you can’t afford to miss it,” he said.

Pierre said The HEM experience, is themed after the woman featured in Matthew, in the Bible, who experienced the issue of blood and who, upon touching the hem of Jesus, was healed. Pierre said this service was designed by young people, for young people in Grenada, to bring deliverance and healing for all.

The Hem Experience will be followed by another youth-led event, specially branded ‘Ice-Cream Evangelism’ on May 19th, in Grand Anse.
“Feel free to join our members.

They will be around the Rick’s Café area, handing out tracts and telling people about Jesus and having some ice cream,” Pierre said.

On May 26, there will be a leadership seminar for church members, at the Lucas Street location, in St. George and a seminar by men for men, during the last Wednesday in May, to promote awareness of health issues, such as prostate cancer, and spirituality.

The main celebrations culminate with an all-day convention, scheduled for Sunday May 27, at 9:30 a.m., at the Spice Basket, in Beaulieu, St. George. It features a grand worship service led by Pastor Phillip Bonaparte, from the United States, and a mass choir, during the morning segment. Fletcher said the afternoon session will involve the presentation of awards to church members who have made notable contributions to the church, in various areas of ministry. The public is invited to join them in worship, at this convention.

T-Shirts for the month-long celebration are available at the Lucas Street office, for $35. Interested persons can contact the New Testament Church of God’s main office at 473-440-6230, for this and other information.
