ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 28th March, 2018: Public sector workers in Grenada this week received the additional one-off payment, as promised by the government in recognition of their collective sacrifices during the recently ended structural adjustment programme.

This latest payment has been made to workers who have been in the service during the period 2013 to 2016. Those who have worked for more than three years, received $750 while $650 was paid to workers, employed from three months to three years.

All the major public sector unions – namely the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union, the Public Workers Union, the Grenada Union of Teachers, the Bank and General Workers Union and the Grenada Maritime and Intellectual Workers Union – had agreed to the payments.

In December 2017 the Police Officers’ Welfare Association and the Prison Officers’ Welfare Association received their payment.

The payments are exempt from Personal Income Tax (PIT).

Over the last five years government has spent over 100 million dollars in salary increases and other additional benefits to worker in Grenada.
