ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JULY 3rd, 2017 – GIS: The Government of Grenada is set to host the 38th Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government which kicks off here Tuesday afternoon with an opening ceremony at the Trade Centre.

The Corporate Community in Grenada has been praised for assisting with the funding of the CARICOM meeting.

Over 130 Foreign delegates are already registered to attend the conference of which Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell will assume the Chairmanship.

During the Government’s Weekly Post Cabinet Press Briefing, Minister for Health and International Business, Hon. Nikolas Steele, gave the reassurance that the meeting came at no cost to the Government or the tax payers.

“On behalf of the Government we want to take this opportunity before we even get into the details to thank the Private sector in general, there’s been significant support from entities within the Private sector; allowing us to fund this, in terms of hosting the Heads of Government meeting to a level that persons have become accustom too,” Steele explained.

“In this occasion we are actually going to surpass that, but it is as a result of the contributions being made and the support we are receiving from members of the Private sector. It is not tax payers’ dollars”.

Member of the Local Organizing Committee and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alva Browne says Grenada is hopeful that its participation in the Regional Meeting will bear positive fruits in a few areas.

“Certainly the issue of Small states and financing for development- major issue and secondly the creation of a single ICT Space for the region; as you know currently our PM is the chair of the ICT Subcommittee within the conference,” said Browne.

“And that is a very important issue for us in the region, so those will be two off the bat; and Air transport”.
