ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2017 –GIS: Senator the Hon. Dr. Winston Garraway has rubbished a claim by opposition Senator Nazim Burke describing the 2018 estimates of revenue and expenditure as a “Miscarried budget”.

Senator Garraway in his defense, highlighted Grenada’s economic progress since the Keith Mitchell led Administration took office in 2013.

He said the budgets presented by the Government are all people centered and development focused.

“For the senior citizens who are receiving the public assistance and they would move from two hundred to three hundred a month that is great for them” Senator Garraway stated during Monday’s budget debate in the Upper House.

He reminded the public of a budget presented by the previous NDC Administration which he said fell flat on its face even before it was presented.
Senator Garraway’s reference was to the so called billion dollar budget presented by former Finance Minister Nazim Burke which did not identify funding sources.

“Hooray!  We were so excited, one billion dollars, but budget has three parts and a central part is your revenue measures.  How are you going to finance your capital expenditures and the likes and so forth and your recurrent expenditures?” Senator Garraway queried.

“So he had two parts but he had nothing to deal with how he is going to finance the billion dollars, so there was a financing gap of over 600 million dollars, so in actual fact Mr. President the budget busted before it was presented”.
