Prime Minister Mitchell Attends ACS Summit in Havana

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, JUNE 3, 2016, GOVERNMENT INFORMATION SERVICE (GIS): Prime Minister Dr the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell traveled to Havana, Cuba, earlier today to join his colleagues at the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

The Summit, which began on Thursday, June 2nd, will see the participation of Heads of State/Government, member countries, associates, and representatives of international organizations. The focus of the three day event is sustainable development for the greater Caribbean.

The first two days will be devoted to evaluating the Declaration of Havana and the Action Plan for 2016-2018, which is expected to be debated and approved by the Summit of Heads of State and/or Government, scheduled for the final day, June 4th.

Cuba assumed the pro tempore presidency of the ACS on January 19, after taking over the responsibility previously held by Haiti, in a ceremony in Port-au-Prince.

Prime Minister Mitchell is supported in Havana by Ambassador Patrick Antoine. They return to Grenada on Monday, June 6th. In the absence of Dr Mitchell, Honourable Gregory Bowen is the Acting Prime Minister.
