ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, November 10, 2015 - GIS: Grenada’s Health and Social Security Minister Hon. Nickolas Steele has rebuked Opposition Senator and leader of the National Democratic Congress Nazim Burke, over statements suggestive that government is not seeking the best interest of the National Insurance Scheme.

Burke recently told the local media that his NDC will hold Government accountable for workers money.
During Tuesday’s post cabinet briefing, the island’s Social Security Minister Nickolas Steele chided the former Finance Minister.

Minister Steele told reporters that Government not only has workers’ best interest at heart, but is paying their monthly contributions to the scheme.

Steele said up to September 22 2015, payments amounting to EC 68.8 million in cash have been made to the NIS by the NNP administration.

These do not include any arrangements made as far back as 2002 to liquidate contributions of approximately 10.9 million.
