NaDMA recieves report of 4.9 magnitude Earthquake

St. George’s, Grenada – 21st May, 2015: The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA), has received preliminary reports from the Seismic Research Centre, at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, of a Magnitude 4.9 earthquake, which occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m., on Thursday, May 21st, 2015.

The preliminary coordinates are given as 61.86 degrees longitude, and 11.20 degrees latitude, with a depth of 10 km.

This puts the quake at approximately 95 km South of St. George’s, Grenada, and 72 km North West of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Residents in Grenada have reported feeling the quake, but there have been no reports of damage. NaDMA will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates that are necessary.

NaDMA urges the population to continue to be vigilant and prepared for all hazards, both natural and human-induced.
