ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, May 7, 2015 – GIS: Finley Jeffrey aka “Scholar” and Elwin Mc Quilkin aka “Black Wizard” will be the facilitators of a three-day Calypso workshop geared at Primary and Secondary Schools students, from May 11 to 13.

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, the workshop will focus on the areas of presentation and performance, the history of calypso, the use of voice and composition techniques, among others.
Berkley Braithwaite, Calypso Tutor at the Ministry, shared the main objectives of the sessions with the Government Information Service on Thursday.

“The workshop, basically, is to help promote the art form to re-establish a basis for the continuation of quality calypso in Grenada.

It will get more persons involved in the teaching of calypso writing, to preserve the art form by implementing it in schools,” Mr. Braithwaite said.

With the August festivities just around the corner, the Ministry believes the workshop will serve as an excellent preparatory tool for junior calypso competitors.

The three-day sessions will be held at the St. Patrick’s RC School, Bain’s Hall in St. Andrew and the National Stadium and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon daily.
