ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, March 25, 2015- GIS: Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Eric Nurse says ICT Week was a success as most of the objectives have been met. The inaugural event, which ran from March 16 – 20, was held under the theme “ICT- Integrating, Connecting and Enabling a Technological Society.”

“We achieved at least 90% of the objectives”, Mr. Nurse said.

He added that, as with everything, there is room for improvement but they were able to have the sessions with a variety of facilitators which made the week interactive.

Various government ministries, students and teachers participated in the week of activities which included mobile application workshops and community outreach.

Discussions revolved around topics such as how to become an entrepreneur using ICT, internet exchanges and cyber security. Presentations were also made by various Secondary School young leaders groups.

The week commenced with an official opening ceremony featuring an address by Prime Minister Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell, who emphasized the importance of ICT in Grenada’s modern society.

“We have to use the technology and reduce expenditure considerably and in some cases create more jobs and widen the opportunities for all sectors of our society”, Dr. Mitchell said.

The School for the Deaf and Blind were also involved in the week’s activities.

Minister for ICT, Hon. Alvin Dabreo, said these sectors are often marginalized and he is heartened that they were integral in the week’s programme. He said this is in keeping with government’s vision for the inclusion of all citizens.
