Primary & Secondary School Students Awarded for Poster Competition

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, June 25, 2015: Winners of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (HRD) Expo’s Poster Competition, held earlier this year, were awarded special prizes, in a ceremony held at the ministry on Friday, June 19.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Secretary, with responsibility for Human Resource Development, Ms. Jacinta Joseph, said, “I recognize and commend all who would have supported and encouraged today’s awardees.”

She also encouraged participants, by saying, “I hope this achievement will cause you to push yourselves towards your fullest potential.”

Placing first, second and third, in the Primary School category were Eren Pierre of the St. Andrew’s Methodist School; Kamal Campbell of the St. Peter’s R.C. School and Duane Mitchell of Grand Roy Government School and Daniel William of St. David’s R.C. School (tie for third place), respectively.

In the Secondary School category, the first, second and third place winners were Zephan Thomas of Westerhall Secondary School; Jed Benjamin of the Grenada Boy’s Secondary School and Shirlan Pierre of the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School, respectively.

Hermitage Government School, Beacon Junior School and Beacon Secondary received prizes for the schools with the highest attendance at the HRD Expo.

Mr. Kerry Mitchell, Representative for LIME Grenada Ltd, said, “When we were approached to support this initiative, we saw the need to support, because as we speak, our company is going through a process of re-engineering and our focus has shifted, So, as we move forward, you would see our company playing a greater role in terms of sport development – youth development – education.”

Prizes were provided by sponsors, including ModOne, St. George’s University (SGU), Digicel Grenada Limited, Kool Systems, MASA and Lime Grenada Limited. Prizes included computer tablets; cell phones and other electronic devices and school supplies. Beacon Secondary School also received the prize of a tour, of SGU.
