ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, June 12, 2015: The Ministry of Health is conducting a Health Fair in Soubise on Friday June 12th, in an attempt to secure the well-being of residents on the Eastern Side of the island, affected by the pile-up of seaweed- Sargassum.

The intrusion of the material, which began earlier in the year, is now seriously affecting communities in Soubise and Marquis.

The pile-up is producing a foul stench, which has threatened the health and livelihood of villagers.

The seaweed is generating Hydrogen Sulfide – a gas that is unhealthy.

The Health Fair from nine in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon will assess the medical fitness of residents in Marquis, Soubise, Long Wall and Sendell Street areas.

Doctors and nurses want to know if the seaweed has had any negative effects on the residents so they can provide the appropriate treatment.

The Ministry of Health is encouraging villagers in the aforementioned areas to make the best of the Health Fair.
