TELESCOPE, GRENADA, July 22, 2015: The Grenada Forestry Department, the Environment Division and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) launched a Mangrove Rehabilitation Project (RECCOMM) in Northern Telescope.

Both, Honorable Minister Bhola and Honorable Minister Pierre stressed the importance of healthy mangrove forest for climate change adaptation and welcomed the livelihood activities which are tied into the project design.

The project aims to increase the health of the mangrove forest in Northern Telescope by replanting and effectively managing the existing forest.

It is managed by a co-management board - comprised of community members and government officers.

Planned/already ongoing livelihood activities include: beekeeping training, training on sustainable charcoal production and eco-tourism.

The project is part of the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Strategies (ICCAS) Programme which is funded by the Government of Germany and jointly implemented by the Environment Division in the Ministry of Agriculture, GIZ and the UNDP.
