School Basketball: GBSS wins Division Tittle

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 28 January, 2014 – Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Religious Affairs: The Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) basketball team secured the boys’ division championship in the 2014/2015 Ministry of Sports Secondary Schools’ Basketball Championships.

GBSS nabbed the title with a 21 point lead victory over Grenada Christian Academy (GCA) on Wednesday at the Grenville Sports Complex.

Jonathan Williams scored 28 points leading GBSS to the 73 – 52 win.

Grenada Boys’ Secondary School with their great teamwork, effective communication and leadership, balanced offense and defense coupled with smart shooting started the Championship strong and finished strong.

GBSS took the lead in the three-game final (1 – 0) in the first game Monday. GCA, ranked No. 2 in the East, put up a tough fight in game 1 of the series but it was not enough against GBSS who were the No. 1 East team.

GBSS won 62 (17, 15, 15, 15) – 52 (15, 13, 14, 10) against the first time finalist Grenada Christian Academy.

Meanwhile, Anglican High School (AHS) and Happy Hill Secondary School (HHSS) advance to the girls’ division final.

The girls’ semifinals took place on Wednesday. Sparkle Joseph (29 points) took AHS in a nail biting 50 – 47 win over Mac Donald College (MDC) at the Sauteurs Hard Court.

HHSS girls’ basketball team won 48 – 29 over defending champions Grenville Secondary School (GSS).

HHSS beat the defending girls’ division champion Grenville Secondary School at the Grenville Sports Complex. HHSS secured their spot in the final winning 48 – 29.

It will be an east versus west girls’ division final on Friday, 30 January, at The Carenage Sports Complex beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Mac Donald College will meet Grenville Secondary School in the girls’ division third place final on Friday (30 Jan), beginning at 1:00 p.m. Boys’ Division third place final between Happy Hill Secondary School (HHSS) and St. John’s Christian Secondary School (SJCSS) is also scheduled for Friday. Both games will be held at The Carenage Sports Complex.
