ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, January 26, 2015 – GIS: New Health Minister Hon. Nicholas Steele has repeated his support for a new hospital for Grenada but says the management of existing hospitals must first be improved.

“I have consistently said on the campaign trail, that we cannot build a new hospital,” said Steele at a recent post cabinet news briefing.

“We could only maintain what we have, what we have is inadequate in terms of size but if we cannot manage what we have now, we are just buying more problems”.

Minister Steele says discussions on location and funding of a new hospital are on stream.

He stressed that the country is in need of a new hospital but believes that a facility without proper management will collapse – leading to the loss of resources.

“Given the ideal facility with the inability to manage, it will just go downhill from there and we will be wasting somebody else’s gift towards somebody else resources and our resources,” said the Minister.
