ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, January 21, 2015 – GIS: Grenada’s Social Development Minister, Hon. Delma Thomas, has called for a multi-sectoral approach to dealing with some of the issues faced by young people.
Minister Thomas was speaking in light of the recent discovery of nude photos on a social media site of some young school girls in Grenada.

“We believe from the Ministry’s stand point that we have to work together to see how we can protect our children. As it relates to technology it is really not an easy road for us to deal with,” said Minister Thomas during Tuesday’s post cabinet news briefing.

“We never envisioned that we would have to deal with that serious issue today and therefore we really have to double our efforts and we are sure, from a Ministry stand point, that we are unable to do it alone. And therefore we will need all stakeholders.”

The Social Development Minister also called on the media to tame its stories that report on these issues. She says it is not just about having a sensational story but one that addresses the root issues.

“We know that the people like the sensation kind of stories …and that affects not only families and schools but the whole country,” said the Social development Minister.

“Let us not focus on the schools but on the issues that confront our children”.
