Beausejour, Carriacou, January 15, 2015- “Any support given towards the development of education in the tri-island state of Grenada must be applauded”, the words of Minister for Labour, Legal Affairs, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Elvin Nimrod as he spoke at a books presentation ceremony.

Minister Nimrod who is also a former teacher noted that with the advent of modern technology there is the tendency to forget about books; however recalling his school days at the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) he admonished the students to ensure reading becomes part of their daily lives.

The books which were presented to the six primary and two secondary schools on the island were made available by a Canadian based charitable organization OneWorld Schoolhouse Foundation.

Local Coordinator Verdun Stafford said the foundation started by Richard Clewes is focused on supporting literacy as a human right and their goal is to collect books for all schools in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

Area Education Officer Rosalina Patrice-Lendore said this donation of books further supports the Ministry of Education efforts in improving the literacy rates in the tri-island state.
