ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, February 2, 2015 – GIS: Prime Minister and CARICOM’s Lead Head with responsibility for ICT in the Quasi Cabinet, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell is in Trinidad on Monday, February 2, to address the opening ceremony of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union 25th Anniversary ICT Conference.

The Prime Minister’s feature address is being delivered under the theme “CARICOM’s Vision for ICT-enabled development and Caribbean Single ICT space.”

The conference is expected to attract a wide cross-section of regional and international stakeholders, including the CARICOM Secretary General and Ministers of ICT and Telecommunications from CARICOM and the wider Caribbean.

Grenada’s Minister with responsibility for ICT, Honourable Alvin Dabreo, is also in attendance and will address the delegates during other sessions this week.

The Caribbean Telecommunication Union, established through a Treaty by CARICOM Heads of Government in 1989, is the telecommunications institution for formulating harmonised policy for the telecommunications market.

Recognising the rapid pace of technological convergence and its potential impact on regional development, the CTU’s 7th General Conference of Ministers in 2004, expanded the mission of the CTU to incorporate all aspects of Information and Communication Technologies.

Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell returns to Grenada on Monday evening, February 2nd. In his absence, Honourable Gregory Bowen is serving as the Acting Prime Minister.
