ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, April 1, 2015 – GIS: A University of the West Indies study has discovered that Grenada is ranked among the top three countries in the region in terms of knowledge generation.

Deputy Principal of UWI Professor Ishenkumba Kahwa made the disclosure as the second High Level CARICOM Science and Technology meeting wrapped up in St.George’s last weekend.

The Deputy Principal congratulated Grenada on what he described as “a big story of the moment.”

He said “ten years ago we did not see Jamaica on the intellectual output map but today Grenada is either number two or number three depending on how you count the intellectual port and I think that country should be congratulated and should feel proud”.

According to the professor, development in the country’s Human Resources was an aspect of such accomplishment.

“Being two, means that you have put in place Human Resources in a recent infrastructure that is generating knowledge in the area of Health, in the area of Agriculture and so on,” said Kahwa.

The UWI Deputy Principal says the study contained information “which is so important, not only for the prestige in the global standing of Grenada but it may also lead to some interesting applications”.

The three-day meeting which ended last Saturday was hosted by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell who chairs the CARICOM Committee on Science and Technology.
