ST. ANDREW, GRENADA, OCTOBER 28 2014, - SASE:Grenada's female sports minister, Hon. Emmalin Pierre has expressed renewed commitment to the development of women's football in the region.

She believes that the time has come for more to be done towards the advancement of the game and she is calling on her regional colleague sport ministers to join forces and work towards the enhancement of opportunities for women in the sport.

She stated that the Caribbean has a wealth of talent and all that is needed is the right structures to support and facilitate women's advancement in the sport.

"I am very impressed with the performance of both Trinidad and Tobago as well as Jamaica in the CONCACAF championship.

It simply shows that this region can make it to the top with more support. I am confident that our own Grenada girls team will one day reach the top; and therefore I pledge whatever support our government can offer to the realisation of such efforts" stated Minister Pierre.

Minister Pierre is also calling on OECS Sports Ministers to consider having women's football placed on the agenda for discussion.

"It will be great if we can host a women's tournament right here once the stadium is completed and we will position ourselves for such an opportunity" said Minister Pierre.

The Grenada Sports minister thanked FIFA and CONCACAF for their work and stated that she is also planning to use her influence to see more girls being introduced to the game.

She hinted her intention to propose a partnership between the GFA and the Ministry of Sports to promote women's football on the island.
