ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 30, 2014 – GIS: Grenada’s top Hotel, Spice Island Beach Resort, has been elevated from a Four Star to a Six Star Diamond Hotel for its excellence in service.

The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) bestowed the prestigious award on the Resort Tuesday evening. It was a true gala affair with pomp and ceremony, which attracted a wide cross section of the population, including the Governor General; Prime Minister; parliamentarians; the diplomatic corp.; the business community and others.

The occasion was also a startling surprise for the guests, and more so for the man of the moment Sir Royston Hopkin, who were expecting A Five Star Diamond Award. It was taken to a higher level. “We are giving you the Six Star Diamond Award and that’s the truth,” were the words coming from the CEO of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS), Joseph Cinque. “We did our research and this service beats all,” remarked General Manager Karen Lynn Dixon to a lusty round of applause.

Dixon disclosed that the Spice Island Beach Resort had made a big mark in World Tourism. “We are looking for heart and soul; we are looking for hospitality service; and that’s what Sir Royston has done. It goes beyond the chandeliers and marbles,” the General Manager said.

She was high in praise for the resort, which has been recording a high rate of returning guests. “They have over 70% repeat business that is so amazing in this competitive market,” Dixon remarked.

Her boss, Joseph Cinque, described Grenada as the ‘Gem of the Caribbean.’ “I don’t know where to begin with this property. We are impressed. I cannot believe the hospitality extended, the courtesy, the food and the culinary; I can imagine some of the dishes. This is definitely the jewel in the Caribbean- Spice Island Beach Resort,” he declared.

The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) was established in 1949 with excellence in hospitality services as their theme. They have offices around the globe.
