ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 15, 2014 – GIS: The following is a message from the National Parenting Programme of the Ministry of Social Development and Housing:

International Day of Families is celebrated each year on the 15th of May, and this year is no exception. Under the local theme “Healthy Relationships: The foundation of Functional Families,” the Ministry of Social Development and Housing has organized activities to commemorate this very important day.

The main activity will be an island-wide motorcade carded for Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 am, beginning in the city of St. George’s and ending at the Cuthbert Peters Park in St. John.

Other activities include community outreach initiatives, focused on the theme, that will commence towards the end of the month of May and continue into the month of June.

The Gender Division of The Ministry of Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs will also be doing their part to recognize this day. They will be hosting activities such as awareness drives within several communities, schools and clinics, radio awareness programmes, information booths, and afternoon workshops on the island.

The ministry encourages persons to take the time out to recognize and pay tribute to your families. Organize a special activity with your family and demonstrate to them how important they are to you. Remember, we do not get to choose our family but rather, they are a gift given to us. We must love, cherish and preserve this irreplaceable gift.

Happy International Day of Families 2014!
