ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 2, 2014 – GIS: From May 5 to 9, a number of teenagers and young adults will get the opportunity to receive training and instruction in the art of Contemporary and Street Dance. This will be made possible through a Dance Workshop hosted by the Division of Culture of the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture.

Facilitated by International Choreographer, Dance Educator and Consultant, Ian Douglas, the workshop is aimed at bringing together and inspiring young dancers to experience and create dance.

During the five sessions, students and participants will study and explore both traditional and experimental styles of street dance and contemporary dance, learn about dance language and get acquainted with dance genres and idioms– all from the Caribbean perspective.

Participants will also get the opportunity to work in groups and share their dance ideas, photos and videos.

The workshop series will be imparted at the Grenada Trade Centre (Annex), the Marryshow Folk Theatre in St. George’s and Bain’s Hall in St. Andrew’s.
Douglas, who hails from the island of Barbados, has over years developed choreographic, dramatic, and technical skills that have given him possibilities to work in the arts, as well as in administrative fields of theatre, dance, film and video productions.
