Social partners form committee to monitor Home Grown Programme

ST.GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Monday, March 31, 2014 - GIS:
A monitoring committee involving representatives of the social partners have been appointed to monitor the implementation of Grenada’s Homegrown Programme.

The social partners meet monthly in the cabinet room to discuss the state of affairs in the country.

The social partners comprises government, private sector, labour unions, civil society and the churches.

The partners have been meeting regularly with the chairman, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, since his administration assumed office a little over a year ago.

The committee will receive and review monthly reports from the Ministry of Finance on performance criteria and benchmarks.

It will assist Government to achieve agreed targets and benchmarks as well as recommend corrective actions as deemed necessary.

The monitoring committee will issue a communique after each meeting on its findings and recommendations.

The IMF has already agreed in principal on a deal with Grenada which will see the Government drawing down US 21.9 million.

Under the deal, Grenada is also expected to draw down at least a further US 100 million dollars in soft loan and grant funding.

The programme, covering three years, is supported by development partners including the IMF, World Bank, Caribbean Development Bank and the European Union.
