This meeting would allow stakeholders, inclusive of Principals; Social and Community Workers; Health Professionals; and law Enforcement Officers, to present and discuss the findings of the survey, and would be conducted by Dr. Cecilia Younger, Professor of Biostatistics, St. George’s University, and Technical Consultant for the Survey.

Mr. Pernell Clarke, Specialist at the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), who is responsible for overall management of the CICAD project on Secondary Schools Drug Prevalence Survey in the Caribbean, would also participate in the presentation.

One of the key features of the meeting would be thematic group discussions and a review on aspects of the survey’s results.

The Third Secondary Schools’ Drug Prevalence Survey was administered to 1,493 students of Forms 2, 4 and 5, students in Grenada in April, 2013. Seventeen (17) randomly selected secondary schools in Grenada, both private and public (inclusive of Carriacou), participated in the survey. The survey’s objectives were two-fold:

i. To determine the prevalence and incidence of drug use among secondary school students in Grenada.

ii. To establish comparisons with the results of the first and second Secondary School Drug Prevalence Surveys conducted in 2002 and 2005, as a means of informing policy makers of changes in prevalence and incidence and new findings.

Meanwhile three focus group sessions were held between March 26-28, 2014, with students from 12 of the secondary schools which participated in the survey. These sessions briefed the students on the results of the survey, and sought to obtain clarification on specific issues from the survey.

The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), funded the survey at a cost of XCD $33,088.00. This survey was part of a regional project implemented by CICAD, with surveys in twelve (12) Caribbean countries.
