ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 - GIS: Day one of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Religious Affairs, Project Reach, Small Business Program for young inmates housed at Her Majesty’s Prison has been exceptional. That’s according to facilitator and project Officer Akada Ventour.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs is collaborating with the Young American Business Trust to introduce the concept of Small Business Management to inmates who have one year or less left on their prison sentences.

The aim of the Ministry’s Program is to give the young men, a strong foundation of skills and certification that can help sustain a better life once they have been released from prison.

This program is in keeping with the Ministry’s Grenada Youth Enterprise Initiative Program (GYEI).
Classes commenced on Friday March 21st.

Ms. Ventour indicated that she is in awe at some of the business ideas the participants came up with and the way they went about working in groups, planning and explaining how they wanted their ideas to flourish.

The participants will be introduced to topics such as: marketing, sales, management, production, finance and book-keeping.

At the end of the three month program, representatives under the GYEI Program will work closely with the participants to create business plans; which will then be assessed for possible financial grants.

Ventour explained that her level of anticipation for the program rose following day one, after seeing so much energy and potential on display.
These Project Reach Small Business classes will be held every Friday for the next three months.
