On behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell (in absentia), as well as Acting Prime Minister Honourable Elvin Nimrod extend sincere sympathy to the victims of Saturday night's devastating fire in Gouyave, St. John's.
Government will like to assure the victims that we are with them through every step of the recovery process.

Government has already solicited the assistance of the Grenada Red Cross, NaDMA, Ministry of Social Development and other private donors.

Acting Prime Minister, Honourable Elvin Nimrod has personally reached out to the victims, and MP for the area, Honourable Alvin Dabreo has been on the ground with them immediately upon returning to Grenada last night from London.

Ministers and other Government officials will be on the ground with the victims throughout this afternoon, and will hold a meeting with victims at 2:30 PM.

Five homes were destroyed by the ravaging fire last night, but thankfully, no lives were lost.

Government encourages all private citizens to join in efforts to aid the victims, in whatever way possible.

The Government will also like to extend its gratitude to members of the Gouyave community and the fire department of the Royal Grenada Police Force for their quick response in preventing the blaze from spreading.
