Prime Minister to attend swearing in ceremony in Antigua

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JUNE 18, 2014 – GIS: Grenada's Prime Minister, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is in Antigua to attend the swearing in ceremony of that country's new Cabinet.

On special invitation of new Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister, Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister Mitchell left Grenada for Antigua earlier Wednesday to attend the ceremony of the newly elected government ministers.

In early 2013, Hon. Gaston Browne, then opposition leader of the Antigua Labour Party, and colleague Mr. Asot Michael, who will also be sworn in later today, attended the official swearing in ceremony of the Grenada Cabinet led by a Prime a Minister Mitchell.

Prime Ministers Mitchell and Browne have had a traditionally good relationship, and have both expressed their mutual respect for each other, and desire to work together with the other regional leaders to continue the developmental agenda of the Caribbean.

The ceremony today at the Antigua recreation grounds comes less than a week after the Antigua Labour Party, led by Hon. Browne, defeated the United Progressive Party of now former Prime Minister, Hon. Spencer Baldwin, winning 14 of the 17 seats.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell returns to Grenada on Thursday, June 19th. In his absence, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Elvin Nimrod is the Acting Prime Minister.
