ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, WEDNESDAY, 23 JULY, 2014 - GIS: A delegation from Grenada is in Colombia to explore best practices in the management of historic centers as part of a week of activities generously supported by Colombia’s Foreign Ministry, the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation, and the National Commission for UNESCO.

This latest manifestation of South-South cooperation follows from dialogue between the Hon. Nickolas Steele, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Business and Parliamentary Representative for the Town of St. George, and his Colombian counterpart Maria Angela Holguin, on the margins of the 44th General Assembly of the OAS held in Paraguay in June.

Minister Steele, drawing on the success story of the coastal city of Cartagena, formally requested Colombia’s assistance in the preservation and restoration of Grenada’s capital city, St. George’s.

Grenada’s delegation is headed by Ms. Sibyl Alexander, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation who is supported by a technical team comprising Mr. Samuel Byam, Mr. Lennox Taylor, and Mrs. Nyasha Moore-Regis.
In addition to learning from Colombia’s best practices, the delegation will also present several project proposals in the area of Heritage Management for the consideration of the Colombian authorities.

On July 27th, a delegation focusing on Agriculture will visit Colombia, again thanks to Minister Steele’s diplomatic efforts.
