ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, January 29, 2014 – GIS: Staff and partners of the Jason Roberts Foundation are finalising plans for their trip to Grenada this Sunday, to deliver the next stage of this years’ busy program of activities and events for the students of The Limes School - St Georges, Victoria School - St Patrick's and St Andrews School in Grenville.

These are three of the Special Educational Needs Schools on the Island that the Foundation has been working with over the last 3+ years.

The Foundation is currently busy finalising plans for the next stage of the 2013/14 Physical Education for Children with Special Needs (PECSN) Program, when staff and partners of the Foundation will visit Grenada to deliver a range of activities to Special Educational Needs Schools on the Island.

At the end of this week Rob Burton - a specialist disability football coach and Deputy Chief Officer at West London disability charity DASH, will again fly out to Grenada, with Otis Roberts – CEO of the Foundation, to deliver practical sports and physical activity sessions at each of the three Special Educational Needs schools that the Foundation work with: The Limes in St Georges; St Andrews in Grenville and Victoria School in St Patricks.

This year the students from the three schools will have an opportunity to experience golf, as the Foundation is also being supported by Cae Menai Davis one of the Founders of The Golf Trust – an organisation which was set up to highlight and develop the inclusive values of golf.

Their visit coincides with a week of celebrations for Grenada’s 40th Anniversary of Independence ending with a Public Holiday on Friday 7th February. So in addition to the many activities the Foundation will be offering, the students have a number of events organised too, including Cross Country Races at St Andrews School in Grenville, which Foundation staff and volunteers will assist with.

The week of activities on the Island will culminate in the Foundation’s 3rd Festival of Sports Event which will be held at The Limes School in St Georges on Thursday, and which will enable the schools to come together in a day of celebration and sporting activities, with the help again, of students and staff from St George’s University, who have kindly volunteered to assist on the day.  As lead Sponsor of the program, Digicel has an exclusive association with the PECSN Program which includes volunteering opportunities for Management or staff at the Festival of Sports Event.
The format of the week is planned as follows:

  • Monday 3rd February: The Limes School – Practical Multi-sports & Golf coaching session 10 am – 12 noon
  • Tuesday 4th February: St Andrews School – Cross Country Race and Football & Golf sessions from 9.30 am
  • Wednesday 5th February: Victoria School – Practical Multi-sports & Golf coaching session 10 am – 12 noon
  • Thursday 6th February: Festival of Sports Day – to be held at The Limes School – 10 am – 2 pm
  • Friday 7th February: Public Holiday in Grenada

During the course of the week, interviews will be arranged with Rob Burton, Cae Menai Davis and Otis Roberts, with local newspapers and radio stations to ensure good media coverage of the week’s activities. One of the Foundation’s Trustees – Rodney Hinds who is Sports Editor of UK Newspaper “The Voice”, will be participating in the visit, and will provide national coverage of the program.
