UNESCO to assist CARICOM Region

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Friday, January 10, 2014 – GIS:UNESCO, through its International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC) based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and its Caribbean affiliated organization CARISCIENCE based at the St. Augustine Campus of The University Of The West Indies, will be mounting a major training Workshop to assist the CARICOM region develop its entrepreneurial class.

This Workshop titled “Training Workshop on Technopreneurship for the Caribbean” will take place in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago from May 5-9, 2014.

Its Programme, developed by a team of experts mainly from Singapore and Malaysia, is designed to train thirty-five potential entrepreneurs from the CARICOM countries in the elements of entrepreneurship in relation to the demand of the knowledge and innovation economy.

Participants will also be taught a systematic approach on how to create and build successful businesses which are based on, and driven, by technology.

ISTIC has successfully mounted this programme in a number of countries including Malaysia, India, South Korea, Kazikistan and more recently Kuwait in 2013.

This Workshop has the strong support of the Rt. The Honorable Dr. Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada and Prime Minister responsible for Science and Technology in CARICOM, and the local National Entrepreneurship Development Company (NEDCO).

Its Organizing Committee is headed by Professor Emeritus Harold Ramkissoon, Board Member of ISTIC and President Emeritus of CARISCIENCE and comprises Drs. Krishna Persad, CEO, KPA Group of Companies, Permanand Mohan, Head, Department of Computing and Information Technology at the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies and Mr. Curtis Mayers, Member of NEDCO.
