ST GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Friday, January 3, 2014 – GIS: Grenada's Social Services Minister, Delma Thomas, has called her counterparts in the sister Windward Islands to express sympathy and solidarity in the wake of recent weather-related destruction.

Thomas spoke via telephone with her Social Services Minister counterpart in St. Vincent, Frederick Stephenson, as well as representatives for Minister Alvina Reynolds in St. Lucia and Gloria Shillingford in Dominica.

"Minister Thomas expressed Grenada's sympathy and solidarity in their times of need and reassured them of Grenada's willingness to provide any assistance it can, given our limitations," a spokesman for the department said Thursday.

Thomas told Minister Stephenson that "Grenadians have responded well to your plight," noting that the community had come together to ensure a shipment of supplies left St. George's on Sunday.

Disaster Management officials in Grenada have also been in touch with their counterparts in the various islands.

"It has been a very difficult holiday season for all concerned, and the images that have come back have broken all of our hearts," Thomas reportedly told Stephenson in the direct conversation.
