A major investment at Grenada’s General Hospital is expected to bring about cash benefits to the Government and People of Grenada, as the Ministry of Health and Social Security (MOHSS) begins the installation of a medical gas (Oxygen) production unit.

The Ministry of Health, and by extension Government, is expected to save almost EC 1 million dollars in medical gas expenses per annum as a result of the investment.

The Unit which cost in excess of EC $650,000.00 will be installed near the current medical gas-bank storage facility at the Hospital, as of Monday, March 3, 2014.

On Friday afternoon the Government Information Service (GIS) visited the Hospital where the system was already in place in time for the installation process.

Since taking office in 2013, Health and Social Security Minister - Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen has been driving the process by meeting with officials from the St. George’s University (SGU) and pushing her staff to turn the wheels of progress in ensuring that the Hospital has the necessary systems in place.

(GIS) recalled in 2013 Dr. Modeste-Curwen led a team on a site visit where the housing and operations chamber was being constructed for the Oxygen plant.

On completion of the installation, the Unit will be capable of supplying the entire Hospital, and has the capacity to produce ten (10) 100lb backup cylinders per day.
