ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, February 27, 2014 – GIS: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, earlier today, pledged his administration’s support for the Comprehensive Disaster Management Secondary Schools Youth Championship through another year.

The ceremony to launch the Youth Championship was held at the Red Cross headquarters and was attended by a number of secondary schools, as well as Disaster personnel and representatives from the Business community who have partnered with government to sponsor the competition.

In expressing Government’s support for the Championship, the Prime Minister stated that it is his sincere belief that “we are on the right side of history when we wholeheartedly support initiatives that place our youth at the forefront of our disaster awareness and preparation efforts.”

According to the Prime Minister, technology has to play a major role in whatever initiatives we embrace; therefore our young people are likely more capable of leading the way in that regard.

The Youth Championship, held under the auspices of the National Disaster management Agency (NaDMA), is a competition that seeks to increase awareness of Comprehensive Disaster Management within secondary schools and communities; sensitize students, teachers and community residents on measures to reduce disaster risk; and raise awareness on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.
