ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, December 9, 2014 –GIS:
On her first official engagement as Grenada's new and first female Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Dr. Clarice Modeste Curwen held several high level and productive meetings in Havana, Cuba, during December 6-9, 2014.

Minister Modeste Curwen met with her Cuban counterparts, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, and Cuba's Minister of Health, Mr. Robert Morales Ojeda, to discuss further areas of cooperation in healthcare between Grenada and Cuba.

Dr. Modeste, a medical doctor, trained in Cuba, engaged her counterparts on areas of identified specialized training and educational scholarships needed for Grenada's medical field, while emphasizing Grenada's profound gratitude for Cuba's ongoing assistance in healthcare and human resource development.

Minister Modeste proposed that the two countries review the original agreement on the basis of developmental needs; not with the expressed or sole intent of procuring more scholarships.

A decision on the well- received proposal will be finalized in the coming days among the parties, with the plan to implement in the new year.

Minister Modeste, who was on a state visit to Cuba with Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, was also part of discussions with Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz, with the focus being on solidarity and areas of further collaboration between the countries.
