Sports Minister extends heartfelt thanks

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, August 25, 2014 - GIS: The Minister for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs, Hon. Emmalin Pierre, extends her heartfelt thanks for the support from the Grenadian public and the Government of Grenada, for the One Day International (ODI) Cricket Games, which were held at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday 20th and Friday 22nd August, 2014.

Congratulations go out to the West Indies Cricket Team for their outstanding performance at the games. The team won Friday’s match against Bangladesh, by 177 runs - 247 runs for 7 Wickets in 50 overs.

Bangladesh replied with 70 runs all out in 24.4 overs. The West Indies team also won last Wednesday’s ODI game, by three wickets.

Minister Pierre commends Chris Gayle and Darren Bravo of the West Indies Cricket Team for their notable accomplishments duringFriday’s game, when both cricketers scored half-centuries.

According to Minister Pierre, “the success of the games was largely due to the partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, the Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) and the hard work of the Local Organizing Committee.”

The final ODI game will be held in St. Kitts today, Monday, 25th August 2014.

Grenadians can now look forward to Grenada’s hosting of the second Test match of a Three-Test Tour (April 21-25, 2015), at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium in April of 2015.

It will be England’s first-ever Test match at this venue.
