ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, April 29, 2014 - GIS:
Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell left Grenada earlier today, Tuesday, April 29th, for Mexico to attend the CARICOM-Mexico Summit in Merida.

The Summit will have in attendance a number of other regional leaders, as they discuss the way forward for the cooperation between Mexico and Caribbean states.

Just 12 hours earlier, Prime Minister Mitchell delivered an address at the grand opening of the Sandals-La Source resort, to a large audience of visitors and locals alike.

The Mexican government has pulled out all the stops to entice Prime Minister Mitchell to attend the Summit, including sending their Ambassador to the Caribbean, HE. Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno, to Grenada to speak directly with Prime Minister Mitchell on Sunday last, and providing a private plane to take him to the Summit.

Mexico has pledged 5 million USD to assist Grenada in the reconstruction of its Parliament building, as well as to assist in rebuilding the national library.

PM Mitchell is accompanied by Grenada's Ambassador to CARICOM, Dr. Patrick Antoine. The delegation returns to Grenada late Wednesday night, April 30th.

In the absence of Prime Minister Mitchell, Deputy Prime Minister Elvin Nimrod is the Acting Prime Minister as well as Minister of Finance.
