ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Wednesday, April 23, 2014:
The Customs Division and Grenada Bureau of Standards recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to officially standardize the existing inter-agency operations electronically supported by ASYCUDA World.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) seeks to provide a suitable framework for both agencies to establish and implement an inter-agency compliance system for ensuring that products subjected to trade in Grenada meet the Compulsory National Standards and by extension eliminate the entry of sub-standard products into the domestic market.

Furthermore, the MOU:

  • is intended to establish and improve cooperative working relationships
  • provides for a coordinated and cohesive approach to achieving the goal of an effective and efficient import monitoring system.
  • is further designed to eliminate or prevent overlap of activities, duplication of effort, and inconsistency of action, to the benefit of the regulated public, the Bureau of Standards, the Customs Administration and other local interest groups.

The two entities are confident that this arrangement will streamline work processes and create higher levels of efficiencies which will translate into a further reduction in the time taken to clear goods.

The upgrade to ASYCUDA World at the Customs and Excise Division opened the way for a number of improvements in the Division’s trade facilitation efforts and continues to bring benefits to traders, other Government agencies and the Division.

Grenada Customs and Excise Division remains committed to the effective use of ASYCUDA World which can contribute to significant improvement in the country’s investment climate
