US Under Secretary backs Grenada’s robust bid to revamp the economy

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, April 13, 2014 – GIS:
United States Department of State Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman, has expressed support for Grenada’s ongoing and active engagement with the IMF, the World Bank and The Paris Club.

The US Under Secretary expressed her sentiments to Prime Minister Dr.The Right Honorable Keith Mitchell during a meeting in Washington DC.

Under Secretary Sherman told Prime Minister Mitchell she was encouraged by the critical efforts of the Grenada Government to build a coalition of social partners to forge a way forward in the face of the island's fiscal challenges.

The US Under Secretary also applauded the Prime Minister's ongoing efforts to introduce renewable energy to Grenada as part of an effort to improve the island's energy independence.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to lower electricity costs for ordinary households and to help Grenadian youth join the information highway.

The opportunity provided an occasion to exchange views on various regional matters wherein the Prime Minister re-iterated Grenada's support for ending the US embargo on Cuba.

Prime Minister Mitchell underscored the importance of the bilateral relations between Grenada and the United States and encouraged greater support for the region's challenges.
