ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, April 8, 2014 – GIS: The government of Venezuela has pledged funding to Grenada, and other Petro Caribe member states in Latin America and the Caribbean, to eradicate hunger and poverty.

The pledge was made during a meeting held in Venezuela last weekend.

Grenada was represented by Hon. Oliver Joseph, Minister for Economic Development, Trade, Planning and Co-operatives, and Mr. Peter David.

Minister Joseph told members of the media, on Tuesday, that five areas have been identified for support.

“They clearly outline what needs to be done in order to eradicate poverty, and Venezuela will offer support to member states for this initiative,” Minister Joseph said.

“Grenada is part of this initiative and we stand to benefit from this drive to eradicate hunger and poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Ministers responsible for Petro Caribe will meet in June in Venezuela – where the funding will be committed for the programme.
