St. George’s Grenada, January 28, 2013 - A high level delegation of Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and World Health Organisation (WHO) officials visited Grenada last Friday to meet with local health officials as they sought to determine the country’s progress regarding technical co-operation in five major areas.

The team held an audience with players in the sector to discuss the area which included chronic non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, international health regulations, health information systems and vital statistics.
“We need to provide a status as to where we are with these diseases and what support would be required,” said acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Isaac Bhagwan on Friday.

The five areas are part of a framework which will add focus to the Ministry’s five year strategic plan. Mr. Bhagwan noted that this is part of the programme linked to the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and would aid in the analysis of “where we are, what structures are in place and what support is required.”

According to the PS, “in terms of moving forward we would be able to refine our approach and seek further technical and funding support from the organisations.”

Officials from PAHO and the WHO systematically do investigations to make determinations as to a country’s stage in the achievement of its goals in the five critical areas.
