Karl Hood among Appointed Ambassadors

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, April 25, 2013:GIS - The man who once held the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Former Administration, has been appointed to serve as Grenada’s Ambassador in the People’s Republic of China.

The appointment of Mr. Karl Hood and others who will serve in Embassies and High Commissions abroad, was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Elvin Nimrod during a Post Cabinet briefing on Wednesday.

He said, the appointments are in keeping with government’s desire to maintain Grenada’s high profile, Regionally and Internationally, and is in keeping with its promise of all inclusion.

The other appointees are:

Mr. Joslyn Whiteman who served as Ambassador to the Peoples Republic of China recently, will be reassigned to the High Commission in London;

Mrs. Clarice Charles former Minister for Education is designated to serve as Ambassador in Cuba;

Mr. Hassan Hadeed is assigned to serve in the Embassy in Venezuela;

Mr. Derek James who was the Consul General in the past Administration is designated to serve as Honorary Consul General in New York.

Mr. Nimrod said, they are still considering suitable persons to serve in the positions of Ambassador for the US, as well as a permanent representative for the United Nations.

He hopes a selection will be made in the next month.

Those appointed will be on contract for two years, and are expected to take up their positions shortly.

It was also announced that Cabinet has appointed a negotiating team to expedite the process of negotiations with Trade Unions.

The members are Mrs. Beryl Isaac, a former Permanent Secretary as Chairman, PS in the Ministry of Finance Timothy Antoine, the Attorney General or his nominee, Mrs. Elizabeth Henry Greenidge and Ms. Lana Mc Phail, the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism.

A subcommittee was also appointed to immediately begin discussing retroactive benefits to Public Officers.

The members are Beryl Isaac, Timothy Antoine and Lana Mc Phail.

It was also announced that Mr. Ashley ‘Ram’ Folkes has been appointed as Commissioner of Her Majesty’s Prisons on a temporary basis.
