ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MARCH 23rd, 2010 _ In keeping with its pledge to “Make Grenada work for all”, the government is continuing to invest in training for public officers.

Members of Grenada’s Senior Managers Board (SMB), which incorporates Permanent Secretaries and Heads of non Ministerial Departments, will on Wednesday, participate in a one day workshop aimed at enhancing their knowledge in good corporate governance practices and the legal framework within which they operate.

The workshop is a component of the governments continued efforts to strengthen corporate discipline and improve the effectiveness of decision making within the public sector.

It is also in keeping with government’s commitment, announced in the 2010 budget, to “continue to invest” in training and development of the Grenada Public Service at all levels, including Permanent Secretaries and senior managers.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas’ vision for the public service calls for “a public sector that fully understands and demonstrates that it exists solely to serve Grenada, its citizens and residents, helping them to achieve their goals and does so with integrity, professional competence, responsiveness, openness, transparency, and that is fully accountable for its actions and performance.”

Acting Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Gemma Bain-Thomas has said “We are called upon to perform in a period of challenge. We must therefore adjust our management techniques if we are to successfully deliver government services in an efficient and effective way for the benefit of the people of Grenada.”

The World Bank and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is currently funding four programmes designed to deliver on the change process. These include the Public Sector Modernisation Project, the Public Sector Modernisation Change Management Programme, the e-Government regional integration Project and the Strengthening Personnel Expenditure management programme.

Over 30 senior managers will participate in the workshop.
