Alleyne Walker
Minister for Housing, Lands and Community Development

Term of Appointment: July 9 2008 to present

 

Hon. Alleyne Walker, who resides in La Fillete, is a true son of the soil. He is one of Grenada’s longest serving parliamentarians having contested two constituencies in St. Andrew.

The son of Oliver L.Walker and Cynthia Whiteman, MP Walker received his early education at the Belair Government School and later at the St. Andrew Anglican Secondary School. There, he discovered his love for   Mathematics. Alleyne’s first job upon leaving SAASS was at Geest Industries.

Alleyne entered the political arena in 1984 as a member of the original New National party (NNP). He successfully contested the St. Andrew North West constituency and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education by Prime Minister Herbert Blaize.

The professional farmer has been elected to the House of Representatives in 1984, 1990, 2003, and on July 8th 2008. He has worked in the Ministries of Education, Works, and Health. He is presently the Minister for Housing, Lands, and Community Development. With his experience and vision, he is committed to work diligently in this area as an expression of love for country.

Minister Walker is devoted to the development of rural communities as evidenced by his role in advocating for the people of St.Andrew North West  to receive pipe borne water, parcels of land for housing, and the introduction of a road network in the area of Laca Bacaye, a  small village  in Paradise.

As a father, he understands the challenges of young people. One of his objectives is to see more young persons take their place in society and attain their fullest potential. He also wants to see young persons returning to the land using modern technology.
