MISSION STATEMENT
To provide efficient and effective services and appropriate facilities that would enable all citizens in our communities to participate and reach their highest potential in Sports and Community Development activities and to facilitate the further development of a vibrant Productive Co-operative Sector.

To be the leading change agent to attain the highest standards of excellence in Sports, Community Development and productive Co-operatives.

 

ROLE ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION

The Administrative Division of the Ministry of Sports, Community Development and Co-operatives has the overall responsibility of providing supervision, planning, policy formulation and implementation and general support services to the Divisions within the Ministry.  The said services facilitate the smooth functioning of the Ministry and enables the achievement of set objectives.

 

FUNCTIONAL AREAS
The Division’s functional areas include:

* General Administration

* Personnel

* Accounts

* Registry

 

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

* To provide support, leadership and management to the Divisions within the Ministry in the areas of general administration, finance, registry and personnel.

* To continue to establish and implement new approach to customer service.

* To supervise the formulation and implementation of National Sports Policy, Sports Tourism Policy, Sports Medicine and Community Development Policies for the Ministry.

* To establish a website and public relations function for the Ministry.

* To establish linkages and work collaboratively with local, regional and international bodies that influence the Ministry’s activities.

 

DIVISION OF SPORTS
The Division of Sports has the overall responsibility of providing technical services and functional sporting facilities to enable mass participation of citizens in sporting activities for the development of their talent and the nation generally.  Through the medium of Sports, the Division has a significant role to play in socio-economic and educational development.

 

ROLE

1.         Develop and implement coaching programmes in various sporting events.
2.         Provide playing facilities for our nation’s youths and other citizens.
3.         Maintain and upkeep all the nation’s playing fields.
4.         Organise sport competitions.
5.         Facilitate other sporting activities.
6.         Provide training and development programmes.
7.         Manage Physical Education programmes in collaboration with Ministry of Education.
8.         Provide technical assistance.
9.         Develop and implement sports policies.

 

SERVICES
1.         Plan and implement sporting programmes and projects.
2.         Provide coaching in the primary and secondary schools.
3.         Organise competitions for primary and secondary schools.
4.         Provide facilities for the staging of sporting and cultural activities.
5.         Financial support to athletes on Sports Scholarships in the United States of America.
6.         Conduct seminars and workshops in various sports for coaches and teachers.
7.         Form partnerships and give assistance to various stakeholders to implement programmes
            and projects.
8.         Give technical assistance to National Federations, groups and organisations.
9.         Sports Medicine [to be fully implemented 2008].

CORPORATE OBJECTIVES

1.         Implement an appropriate Management, Maintenance and Refurbishment Programme for all Sporting Facilities.

2.         To establish and implement Human Resource Development Programmes [Advance Counselling Program, Reporting, Theory and Methodology of Sports].

3.         To continue the coaching of primary and secondary school children in the basic and advance techniques of Netball, Football, Cricket, Athletics, Basketball and Swimming and provide avenues for competitions among Schools at the Pre-Primary, Primary and  Secondary level.

4.         Play an active role in promoting sports Development, community sports, healthy lifestyles and physical activity.

5.        Preparation for and Participation in regional and International Sporting activities

6.        Further Development of our sports scholarship programme

 

PRIORITIES
1.         The Refurbishment of the Cuthbert Peters Park Pavilion.
2.         Complete rehabilitation of Westerhall and Vendome playing fields.
3.         Resurfacing of hard courts.
4.         Preparatory work for building Aquatic Centre.
5.         Deliver coaching programmes to primary and Secondary schools throughout the Island.
6.         Continue the revitalisation of Parish Sports Councils.
7.         Complete consultation and implementation of first phase of sports policy.
8.         Implement a sports Medicine program for our National athlete.
9.         Refining data base of athletes on scholarship.
10.       Improving on linkages with Junior colleges in the USA.
11.      Lighting of Sports facility in each Parish.
12.      Sports Development Programme.
13.      Rural outreach sports Programme.
