Minister for Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries to attend Ministerial meeting in El Salvado

St. George’s, November 7th, 2016 – Minister for Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries Hon. Yolande Bain-Horsford will be attending the III Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Action Plan Ministerial meeting in El Salvador, on “family farming and rural development” from November 9th – 11th.

Minister Bain-Horsford will leave island on Tuesday November 8th 2016.

The meeting is a follow up to an earlier summit held in Quito, Ecuador where several countries within the region adopted and complied with the 2016 CELAC action plan, referred to as the “Ministerial declaration on family farming and the CELAC Ad-hoc working group on family farming action plan 2016”.

The upcoming Ministerial meeting is important as countries continue to join efforts to strengthen the role of family farming in hunger eradication, poverty and sustainable development goals’ achievement.

The three day meeting will highlight regional and sub-regional advances in the framework of CELAC, food sovereignty, monitoring of agreements of the 2nd Ministerial declaration of CELAC on family farming among other pertinent topics.

Minister Bain-Horsford will return to Grenada following the conclusion of the Ministerial meeting.
