ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, February 15, 2016- GIS: Trade and Economic Development Minister Hon. Oliver Joseph is calling on the business community to take full advantage of the investment opportunities existing in the region and the Europe.
He says that government has been working tirelessly to create market access for local entrepreneurs.

Minister Joseph made the call this week as he spoke at a Cocktail Reception for a nine-member team of the British Caribbean Chamber of Commerce at the Spice Island Beach Resort.

“So we have the EPA CARICOM single Market and Economy and all the trade agreements, what really the government is doing is negotiating market access. What the private sector needs to do is to ensure market presence. So we negotiate for you but you have to ensure that the goods reach there.

The government does not sell any goods. In the EPA you have access to the European Market under certain conditions. You must be able to take full advantage of all the trade agreements to sell your products,” Minister Joseph said.

The Trade Minister wants the business community to better understand the European Partnership Agreement and foster trade with Europe, especially the United Kingdom.

“So there are great opportunities for Grenada, and we have these traditional ties with the UK and Grenada and they can get a lot of our products. The problem is not a shortage of markets, the problem is that we have a supply side constraint; we cannot get supplies, that is the real problem. We can supply everything to the European Market and the USA but we cannot get the products.

And the marketing board is doing an extremely good job in that area of getting farmers to sell their products and they can fulfill it in the UK market.

We need to continue this process of taking the opportunities that are provided for farmers to sell to the UK market which is our traditional market,” Minister Joseph added.
