ST. GEORGE’S GRENADA, DEC. 06, 2016: During the Throne Speech on December 2, 2016, Dame Dr. Cécile La Grenade, Governor General of Grenada, announced Government’s plans to address the issue of Government pensions.
The Governor General acknowledged that pension reform remains a significant issue.
“My Government remains firmly committed to finding a collaborative and comprehensive solution to this problem.
With this goal in mind, my Government has begun the process of bringing this issue into resolution within an eighteen to twenty-four month period,” she said.
The Governor General also noted that Government has sought technical advice from the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC).
A report presented by the centre has identified problems and possible solutions. Consequently, a task force, comprised of representatives of various public sector unions, the Government and the NIS, has been set up.
“My Government has shared the road map with the public sector unions and is awaiting their early response to start work.
We wish to assure the nation that we will continue to press ahead to address this burning issue in the shortest possible time,” the Governor General said, informing the public of the way forward.
