ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, OCTOBER 9, 2015, GOVERNMENT INFORMATION SERVICE (GIS): Dominica will host the next summit of the leaders of the OECS next month.

This was disclosed on Friday during a solidarity visit to Dominica by Chairman of the OECS and Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

The OECS chairman believes convening the meeting in Dominica will present a united and supported front to the country which suffered recent devastation from the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

The Heads will gather in Dominica for two days next month and will get an opportunity to meet the locals, tour the affected areas and reiterate their support.

“Dominica has always had a special place in my whole being...the first time I boarded a plane was to Dominica as a sixteen year old to play cricket...It is with a great sense of sympathy and appreciation for what you are going through, that is why I am visiting Dominica at this time,” said Prime Minister Mitchell.

“I am here not only as PM Grenada but representing the whole OECS family. We all express support and commitment to the recovery of Dominica. Only when things happen to you, then you get to know your true friends. Grenada has been there and Dominica bled with us. The OECS and CARICOM bled with us...”

Prime Minister Mitchell, accompanied by the Director General of the OECS, Dr. Didicus Jules, met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who directed a tour of the affected areas.

The Grenadian leader engaged villagers who were victims of the Tropical Storm, and had an opportunity to see the flood devastation first hand.

“PM Mitchell has been there with me throughout in the aftermath of Erika. He has been in contact with me very, very, regularly, providing moral support, guidance and advice,” said Prime Minister Skerrit.

“The people of Grenada have been great in self-mobilization in the immediate aftermath. There has always been a strong bond of friendship between Grenada and Dominica”.

Grenadians at home and in the Diaspora have been making significant donations to Dominica’s relief effort.

Saturday, November 7th, 2015, has been declared a special day in Grenada for Dominica with the staging of a major fundraising concert.

The Dominican Prime Minister has been invited to attend the concert in Grenada
