Beausejour, Carriacou, January 23, 2015- Minister for Tourism Yolande Bain-Horsford is impressed with the level of production being done at the Dumfries Agricultural Station by the Division of Agriculture within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.

Minister Bain-Horsford accompanied by tourism officials was on a tour of the historical sites.

The area cultivated is in close proximity to the old lime factory, one of the tourists’ attractions on the island.

In 2009 the Division of Agriculture headed by Senior Agricultural Officer Benson Patrice embarked on the revitalization of agricultural lands in the Dumfries area. This included the planting of a variety of fruit trees and other crops.
Patrice noted that the Agriculture Division is continuing to play its role in food security.

Presently, sweet potatoes are available for sale to the public at a cost of $3.00 per pound.
